Sports science of mind and How it Can benefit Kids rehearsal and doing

What is sport psychology? What should a good coach be doing to enrich the experience? How can the coach teach them to think on the field/court and bring up their level of play to an all time high?

When selecting a sport for children we often open a quagmire of unknown personalities and sometimes end up with coaches that can do rehearsal for children more harm than good. There are the coaches that scream and yell from the sidelines. The coaches that kick the kids when they are down, metaphorically. The others that may be quiet but don't seem to be able to generate a team spirit or motivate the player or team.

Games

There is a psychology that goes with fitness for kids that is just as foremost as the fitness itself and the diet and nutrition. Often your child's coach may be plainly a parent who has done a 2-3 day course to come to be the unpaid coach of the team. They don't understand or haven't truly view through the psychology behind creating a team that thinks well on the field and has the motivation to play at their optimum level. The fact is that there are many professional coaches that don't understand sport psychology either.

So what are the key factors for sport psychology?

1. Compliment First, Constructive commentary Second
2. Strategy - Both Yours & The Kids
3. Implement Strategies In Training
Motivate, Motivate, Motivate!
5. Lead By Example

1. Compliment First, Constructive commentary Second

When teaching children how to play sport (or do anything for that matter) it is imperative that they be in a frame of mind to receive the facts that you want to report to them. If you upset them or make them feel defensive because they are under attack they will not be able to take in what you say, nor implement it. Most importantly they wont sustain it! The only thing they will remember is "the coach was mean to me."

If you are angry or upset be sure to calm yourself first. If you need to do the post game talk at the next training instead then do so. But don't speak in anger!

Think about it. Each child must have done something right. Compliment them on what they did right and then propose something they could do better, more of, or work on. Ask the kids to come up with things they did right, and then, things they could work on.

2. Strategy- Both Yours & The Kids

Pre- game, half time and post game talks should be all about strategy. You shouldn't need to yell while their on the field because you have put together a strategy or strategies to give your team the best advantage. Ask the kids to get involved. anything have any ideas? Or at least be keep the lines of transportation open.

3. Implement Strategies In Training

Training should be all about walking through the strategies. Kids will not always be able to figure out what you are saying. If you slowly and calmly walk them through it in training, they are more likely to be able to implement it in the games. Everybody, adults and children included, remember things great if they have truly experienced it.

4. Motivate, Motivate, Motivate

It can be incredibly frustrating teaching children and coaching is no exception. The problem is that if you let your frustration out on the kids they will get worse, not better. When children are yelled at, or spoken to harshly they cease listening to the words and come to be upset, naturally.

If you want to enhance performance you need to find out what motivates them. Usually it is with compliments and good advice. "You did this well, next time you could do that as well."

Organising group occasions covering of game day can generate team spirit as well. The team spirit itself is a motivating factor.

5. Lead By Example

Always speak to the kids in a calm and respectful manner. Never allow the kids to speak to each other rudely or push or shove each other.

If you always escort yourself in a decent and mature way you will teach your team to do so. The fact is that sport needs a cool, calm and collected advent for success. Vigor needs to be funneled into the physical, in an enthralling way.
