A Parent's Guide To Kids and Video Games

Parents and kids do not all the time see eye to eye when it comes to video games. Stopping children from playing them is not an option. So in order for parents to successfully deal with this problem, they need to understand some things about kids and video games.

Why Children Love It

Games

Children love immersion. They love getting their heads into things and stay with them for a long time. Video games have enticing graphics, fast processing speed and booming audio which makes them more alluring. Children feel they have operate and free time to do things they may not be able to do in the real world (race cars, play sports with pros, wrestling, etc.). In other words, video games give children a break from reality.

How Much Is Too Much?

Everyone knows that video games can be very addictive, even 30-year old individuals spend a lot of hours in front of the computer screen. Too much time spent playing video games have negative effects. Experts recommend that young children should only be allowed one to two hours of screen time per day. However, there are no magic numbers. The only way to strike balance in your toddler's daily activities is to encourage a range of activities that does not consist of the "screen".

The Pros and Cons

Advantages

Helps sick toddlers. Absorption in a game diverts the mind from pain and discomfort, especially toddlers undergoing painful treatments. Improves reasoning dexterity. A toddler's quality to take on cognitive challenges is increased which enhances cognitive skills together with organized reasoning and pattern recognition. Boosts hand-eye coordination. Enhances awareness. good public skills. Video games promote teamwork. It also helps toddlers gain self-esteem.

Disadvantages

Decreased interest for other activities and hobbies Less socialization Poor school performance health complications (e.g. Fatigue, obesity, eye problems)

How To Supervise Your Child

Set A Schedule

Allotting a exact time for playing video games is the best way you can conduct your toddler's gaming time. You may let your puny one to play for 30 minutes to an hour. Having a schedule is very beneficial as it allows time for your toddler to complete assignments, chores, participate in other activities (arts, music and sports), play with other children, bond with the family and rest.

Screen Video Games

Letting a 4-year old play God of War or Grand Theft Auto is well inappropriate for his age. Choose video games according to your toddler's interests or what you would like your toddler to be exposed to more. You do not have to necessarily Choose educational games all the time. Games with colorful graphics, challenging searches and a stress-free setting (e.g. Big Brain Academy, Nba and puny Big Planet) work just fine.

Set The Video Game system In The Living Room

Make this a social, rather than a solitary activity. Set it up in your family room or somewhere you will be able to keep an eye on your puny one while he is playing. This will make it easier for you to reinforce your rules and for your toddler to result them.

Engage

Why not play a video game with your toddler? Children love it when parents play with them. If you do not want to play, just sit beside him and watch. This way, you get to model to your toddler the importance of family togetherness and permissible time management.

In addition, introduce other fun activities you can do together like going for a walk or riding a bike, swimming, visiting a zoo, playing board games or working on puzzles.

Create A reward System

Create a reward system where your toddler will have to work for video games. For instance, you can allow your toddler an hour of game play for an hour of chores or in change for good grades. This technique troops your toddler to make it an extracurricular operation and to divert his free time in a way that will benefit him in the long-run.

Game play is not a bad thing. It is perfectly okay as long as there is parental involvement and you make it a bonus operation for your toddler.

Games - American inheritance Games

In the early to mid 1960s, Milton Bradley came out with some interesting games all marketed under the label of American patrimony games. These were all war based games and at the time were very popular. Unfortunately, they drifted off into obscurity and are now some of the rarest games nearby if you can even find one. Collectors are getting a mint for some of these.

The series started in 1961 with the Civil War Edition. This game was a very scaled down Civil War battle game. Each side had only 22 pieces consisting of 10 Infantry, 10 Calvary and 2 Artillery pieces. In order to do combat with an enemy piece you had to line up your piece adjoining it in some way, whether side to side or facing the piece. Also, in order to defeat the piece you had to have first-rate battle strength. Infantry and Artillery had the many force of 2 and Calvary had a force of only 1. You could integrate your pieces in any way but in order to attack with Artillery you had to have a Calvary piece with it. To remove a piece you jumped over it, except Artillery pieces did not jump. The game was won by removing all the pieces of the other side. However, your opponent could surrender if he felt there was no way for him to win.

Games

The next game in the series was the 1962 edition of Broadside. This was a game that was probably based off the old wars between Britain and Spain during the pirate days, though no actual record of a timeline is given. The object of the game is to position your frigates in such a way as to take shots at your opponents ships and knocking out one of its masts. There are also land based cannons that can attack enemy ships so getting too close to land can be very dangerous. The game itself isn't very involved and as a matter of fact not all that interesting either, but it does include some as a matter of fact cool miniatures that you can play with and the board is very colorful. Not one of Milton Bradley's good efforts.

In the year 1963 the American patrimony series continued with Dogfight. This was a World War I air battle game between the American and German air forces. The game is a very light version of Ww I air combat and not for as a matter of fact serious gamers. Each side gets 6 planes divided into 2 squadrons of 3 planes each. You have to try to maneuver your planes nearby so that you can get a clear shot at an enemy plane without getting shot yourself. For each plane you shoot down you get a token. These tokens are used to get cards. The player with the most cards at the end of the game is the winner.

The final game in the series was Hit The Beach. This game came out in 1965 and was a Ww Ii edition of the marines landing at the Japanese beach. In this game both players are the Americans and the object is to be the first side to reach the Japanese Hq. The Japanese defense troops are obstacles to both players in this game. In this game each player has 6 pieces composed of 2 Marines, 2 Infantry, 1 naval landing withhold ship and 1 strategic air withhold aircraft. If when interesting your pieces you land directly on an opponents piece, you send that piece back to the start. This is finally how you become the first one to reach the Japanese Hq. This was probably the most interesting and interesting of all the American patrimony games.

Games - practice Your Mind

Games can be done for fun, or used as a tool for teaching and learning. It is carefully both as a work and as an art. Many of us do it for a living or as a form of an rehearsal for both mind and body. Also, it helps people to temporarily lean unto their competing side and wake their bodies up for alertness. It can be categorized under "play" for they are closely related. Only, games are structured plays which consist of components: goals, rules, challenges and interaction - which plays do not possess.

To best understand this, games have its elements and classifications. Elements are those which are used in the game. They are the tools, rules, and skills, strategy and chance. And its classifications are: single-player or manifold players.

Games

Elements:

Tools - balls are the most coarse tools used in games that apply them such as volleyball, soccer, basketball and the like. Others use cards for card games like poker or solitaire. Cars are also other form of tools for games such as racing. Tools are vital in the majority of games widely played nowadays. On the other hand, there are some which do not use tools to walk playing. Examples of these are "tag" and "hide-and-seek" which children usually play in school or in parks. Although tools do not work on the gameplay, but the surroundings can. Rules- This determines what should be done and what is wrong or taken as an offense. Rules claim salutary competition in the middle of two private or group players. A game has its fixed rules and if changed, it will be carefully not as the same game anymore but a new one. Skill, strategy and chance- Gamers are adequate with skills, may it be physical or mental, depending on the nature of the game. And whether they are individuals or in groups, in order to win, they build a good strategy. Yet, like any other, it partially relies on opportunity or luck wherein they [players] also take risks and guesses.

Classifications:

Single-player games- examples are puzzles or yo-yos which can be called recreational games. These are games which carry all the elements, but can only be played by one person, which means that the player's opponent is the environment, time and himself/herself. Interaction can only exist if done in groups playing the game together, and not as opponents. Multiple players-Games wherein a player/s has oppositions, and uses their skills against other player. Each of them (groups or individuals) has their skills and strategies to accomplish their coarse goal: to win.

Pushing the boundaries of what fans have come to expect from the record-setting entertainment franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops II propels players into a near future, 21st Century Cold War, where technology and weapons have converged to create a new generation of warfare between old and new foes. In this conflict, the mechanized creations of men reign supreme, facing off against each other as their creators stay safe and unconflicted, and in the process grow ever softer. In this scenario an important question will be asked: What happens when enemy steals the keys? To understand such a possible future, you must understand where you have been.

Players of Call of Duty: Black Ops II gain an understanding of this and more through the game's additional timeline set in the late Cold War era of the 1980's. Within the campaign story, which spans these two eras, players will see familiar faces such as Alex Mason, his son David Mason, and Sgt. Frank Woods. Linking these together will be the rise of another player in the conflict, Raul Menendez.

Key Game Features

  • An all-new Call of Duty: Black Ops storyline featuring new characters and and returning characters
  • A unique single-player campaign that contains two time periods linked by characters and their actions
  • Special Strike Force missions, in which the players action affect the outcome of gameplay and the overall campaign

Zombies

The Biggest Zombies Experience to Date: Call of Duty: Black Ops II Zombies features three different ways to survive the zombie apocalypse. Unravel the mysteries of a dying Earth in Tranzit, fight endless waves of zombies in Survival mode, or compete in the new 4z4 last-human-standing mode, Grief.

Tranzit

The new Buildables gameplay elements help players move through each area to find the key tidbits that reveal why they are there and what they must do to survive. All the while, public transportation is still operational, as a bus will regularly stop at each location. Zombies ride for free.

Survival
Recreating the classic mode of just purely surviving the shambling, incoming Zombie horde, Survival mode allows you to play 1-4 players co-op in specific locations from the much larger Tranzit area.

Grief
You and friends can take on up to 4 people in a team vs. Zombies vs. team scenario. 2-8 players are thrown in a situation to be the last humans standing.

MP Technology with Zombies:Call of Duty: Black Ops II features new and extensive stat tracking as well as leaderboards for bragging rights. New skill-based matchmaking system will allow players of the same ability to take on the horrors of the night in public game modes. If you are wondering where to start when it comes to zombies, this is your first stop.

Games

Silent Hill - Konami jumped into this genre with a resounding splash with their first horror-based game. While games like Resident Evil use more of a surprise element to scare you out of your wits, Silent Hill tries to do the same using atmosphere. Tight graphics, a creepy world to walk around in and sound effects that add excellent scare-factor, this is another zombie game you'll want to walk around in a bit and see what lurks in the dark.

Dead Rising - If one or two zombies just don't cut it for you then Dead Rising is for you. The best part about this game is that there can be surely hundreds of zombies on the screen at one time. Whatever can be used as a weapon as you voyage through the mass of hungry zombies attempting to turn you into food.

Left 4 Dead 2 - After winning awards for the original, these guys have taken their feel of the first game and applied it to make the second game ten times better. They've added all new campaigns, guns, melee-weapons and game modes to enhance your feel and claim their stake in the zombie apocalypse.

Nothing beats the feeling of accomplishment that comes with mass destruction and eradication of zombies to save the world from potential extinction. The games are as a matter of fact very simple. When you arrive, you're given a character to play. Sometimes your character is as a matter of fact specified in the invitation. These actors will play out the parts of those who will be giving you clues throughout the evening as to who the murderer is, once the actual murder is committed. This could be right away or not for some hours. The distance of these games is not predetermined as the object is for one of the "real" guests to form out who the "murderer" is among the "hired" guests. This is where you good put your Sherlock Holmes cap on and do some serious thinking. Some of these games can be quite difficult.

While not as popular as they were when they first came out about 30 or so years ago, murder strangeness nights are still around. You can usually find one advertised in your local paper. Most of them today are held in hotels or boats. Not as many "regular" population put these on as in the early days as the thrill has died down a bit. But if you look hard enough, you can still get into the action. It will certainly be a night you won't soon forget.
