Helicopter Parents: Do They Save Teens or Cause Them to Crash?

Have you heard the term "Helicopter Parents"? This is a term that is often used for a single parenting style in which parents "rescue" their children from the difficult things that come their way in life. Parents who are Helicopter Parents will often make excuses for their children, take their child's perspective of a situation at face value without seeing at all the facts, blame others for their child's behaviors or difficulties and take steps to eliminate any discomfort their child may be experiencing due to their bad behaviors. It is understandable how parents fall into this single parenting style - if you love your children, you don't want to see them suffering or uncomfortable so you do what you can when situations arise that bring up these difficult emotions.

However, what happens when parents use a Helicopter Parenting style is that they don't allow their children to palpate the natural consequences of their behaviors, they don't bring up definite decision-making in their children and they are not teaching their children to be responsible for themselves. In many ways, Helicopter Parents do a disservice to their children because they don't let them palpate difficult things as children (when the stakes are much lower) which can cause major problems for them as adults.

If you have a tendency to fall into this parenting style - this post is not to make you feel bad but rather to offer some insight into why this is not always the most effective parent style and some tips for adjusting what you may be doing. If you function as a Helicopter Parent, your child will continue to depend on you to solve their problems and will look to you to blame others for their mistakes. It may succeed in less disagreement in the moment (since we all know that children - especially teenagers - can lash out when you are retention them accountable for something), however, they are not learning anyone other than to come running to you when the going gets tough which will be exhausting for you!

Below are a few tips to reconsider which will help you not fall into this parenting trap and which will help your child grow into a responsible, independent adult:

1. Be an advocate, not a rescuer: of procedure your child will need you for sustain or to help them out if things are difficult and this is part of your role as their parent. 3. Let them sit with the uncomfortable feelings that come with mistakes: this is a unmistakably foremost tip. Children need to palpate being uncomfortable and learn to carry on it. Our feelings drive our behaviors so when children are feeling uncomfortable, it will sway their behaviors which is important. This can be difficult to watch but it is life and a much good chapter to learn as children than as adults when the consequences and stakes are much higher. If children are always comfortable, they will never learn to make good decisions because they know that regardless of what they decree that you will make them comfortable again.

With March Madness behind us and the Nba finals underway, we find ourselves thinking in round-ball terms about what it takes to build a successful brand. It turns out great brands, like great teams, are built on cooperation and a commitment to mutual success. And both can be shattered by the actions of just one player.

On great basketball teams, five private players become one unit, intent on driving a 9-inch ball down the 94-foot court and placing it through an 18-inch hoop ten feet in the air. Each player has a occasion to excel - to be the best at his game - but in the end, what sets winning teams apart is their ability to work together, carefully executing plays that orchestrate fluid exchanges in the middle of players to create an occasion for one player to make the shot.

So what can you do to build a brand team inside your organization? Here are five things to consider:
Know the Playbook - Teams can't win if the players don't know the plays. Make sure every member of your society understands the brand. What is the brand promise? How does it guide decisions? What role does each team member play in advancing the brand? How do your fans define victory? And how can the team pull together to ensure a definite brand touch for every customer?
Ball Handling Drills - Every basketball player, regardless of the position he plays, has to be comfortable handling the ball. Lose the handle, and the ball ends up in the hands of the competition. Inside your organization, each department must coach its team members until the "players" have a relax level handling the brand. That takes countless hours of institution and attentiveness to detail. Make brand-handling drills part of your routine. Talk about your operational decisions in terms of their result on brand. Where do opportunities exist to heighten the brand experience? And encourage departments to share their brand roles internally, so teammates learn how to handle the brand all over the society - no matter what position they play.
Passing Drills - almost every trip down the court includes at least one pass, and speed and accuracy are considerable passing skills. Business is no different. When your society "misses the pass"- whether it's a disconnect in the middle of sales and implementation or lost transportation in the middle of buyer assistance and shipping - your brand suffers, and you run the risk of losing customers.
